Music for your Ears
Scandanavain Rock is on the up (apparently)… so check out the site of the soon-to-be-sensations - Nightwish. They are, apparantly, the next breakout band after The Rasmus, HIM and Ana. Their new single Nemo is number one across Europe. Make your own mind up.

Admit it, you’ve always wanted to know the answer to the following question. What do you get if you cross Meat Loaf with Evanescence with Europe (Final Countdown band) and Andrew Lloyd Webber? Answer - Nightwish!
They are huge (apparently) in Finland with their black metal take on opera. Yes it’s true.
Highest Hopes gathers their biggest numbers (well that’s what we’re told) no doubt in the hope of preparing the UK for an invasion.
They’re fronted by Tarja, who looks like she could play the witch in the Narnia sagas. She’s the one with the operatic vocals. There’s a bloke who screams standard metal, pounding drums and the strangest selection of songs ever.
Fair enough, an operatic version of Gary Moore’s Over the Hills and Far Away, but black metal Walking in the Air! What will Aled think? And there’s Phantom of the Opera.
It’s all quite surreal but it does make you think seeing Nightwish live would be one weird experience.

Led Zep defined stadium rock in the seventies. They invented heavy metal - but were always more than happy to have a pint down the local folk club. One of the most influential bands of the twentieth century.
They were changing all over the place, moving left, right and centre, weaving around…I used to stand at the side of the stage and think ’this is remarkable.’
