Nel marzo 2006, Emergency ha dato avvio alla campagna “Diritto al cuore” per costruire un ospedale di cardiochirurgia in Sudan, un centro di eccellenza per garantire cure altamente specializzate e gratuite ai malati del Sudan e dei nove paesi confinanti.
Il 19 aprile 2007 lo staff di Emergency ha operato la sua prima paziente: Sunia, una ragazza di 14 anni che non avrebbe avuto altra possibilità di essere operata gratuitamente da uno staff altamente specializzato.
Emergency ha voluto il Centro «Salam» per condividere anche con i malati africani i progressi della scienza medica: non solo assistenza sanitaria per i bisogni di base, ma anche cure altamente specializzate per affermare e praticare il diritto a essere curati per tutti gli esseri umani.
Se in Europa si può guarire – ci diciamo – anche in Africa si deve guarire. E così è stato per le oltre 200 persone operate finora dallo staff di Emergency.
Oggi, perché il Centro «Salam» possa continuare a crescere, Emergency riprende la campagna “Diritto al cuore”: dall’1 al 31 ottobre sarà possibile inviare un SMS al numero 48587 del valore di 1 euro per tutti gli utenti Tim, Vodafone, Wind e 3 Italia oppure effettuare allo stesso numero una chiamata da rete fissa Telecom Italia del valore di 2 euro.
