Stavo leggendo questo articolo sulla teoria delle stringhe di Isabella Masina:
"La chiave d'accesso a questi problemi e' probabilmente da ricercare ancora oltre, in una teoria che includa le interazioni gravitazionali. A questo scopo, le teorie di stringhe appaiono il contesto privilegiato: numero delle generazioni fermioniche, masse, mescolamenti e violazione di CP sono tutte conseguenze del meccanismo di compattificazione attraverso il quale le dimensioni supplementari appaiono 'nascoste' ad un osservatore di bassa energia. In particolare le tre generazioni del MS potrebbero provenire da un unico spinore multidimensionale. Bisogna pero' riconoscere che, nonostante gli studi sulle 'intersecting branes' come origine del sapore, le lacune e i problemi di calcolabilita' presenti nelle teorie di stringhe ne ostacolano notevolmente il contatto con la fenomenologia.
Per accedere almeno in parte alle potenzialita' offerte dalle teorie di stringhe riguardo al sapore e CP, recentemente si e' cercato di partire piuttosto 'dal basso', adottando un contesto di teoria di campo con dimensioni supplementari ispirato alle stringhe. Queste teorie sono divergenti nell'ultravioletto ma possono essere utilizzate come descrizioni effettive di bassa energia, scala di compattificazione compresa. Anche in una descrizione di teoria di campo le dimensioni supplementari possono avere profonde conseguenze sul problema del sapore. Per esempio, uno spinore multidimensionale che interagisce con un background di tipo solitonico puo' dare origine a vari fermioni chirali a massa nulla in quattro dimensioni. Le masse vengono poi introdotte dinamicamente attraverso la convoluzione tra le funzioni d'onda dei fermioni e dell'Higgs. Nelle compattificazioni di tipo orbifold, i solitoni sono simulati da campi scalari con proprieta' di trasformazione non banali rispetto ad una data simmetria discreta che agisce sulle coordinate dello spazio interno. Anche in questo caso i modi zero dell'operatore di Dirac su questo background possono essere chirali e localizzati in zone specifiche dello spazio compatto. Vari modelli semi-realistici sono stati proposti, tra cui. Va inoltre sottolineato come il meccanismo di compattificazione e la proiezione di orbifold siano anche stati usati per rompere la supersimmetria, ingrediente essenziale delle teorie di stringhe, e/o gruppi di gauge di tipo grandunificato, evidenziando una soluzione alternativa ai problemi del doppietto-tripletto e della vita media del protone."
E mi son chiesto come mai la divulgazione scientifica in Italia e' cosi' povera... E' un vero peccato perche' ci sarebbe molto da dire e da fare sapere di interessante alla gente!!!
