Il nome della band è acronimo di "Payable On Death", espressione che indica un particolare tipo di conto corrente, i cui fondi sono donati in beneficenza in caso di morte del suo titolare. In realtà hanno scelto questa sigla più che altro per un motivo religioso: infatti l’espressione "Payable On Death" si riferisce anche alla crocifissione di Gesù Cristo, che secondo la fede cristiana ha pagato per i peccati degli uomini.
