Ecco alcune delle regole, anticipate dal Times, che faranno parte del decalogo per i proprietari di gatti che il governo britannico si appresta a diramare;
- Mantenere i gatti all’interno delle abitazioni durante la notte per proteggere loro stessi e la fauna selvatica locale;
- Castrare i gatti a quattro mesi. Le femmine possono produrre fino a 18 cuccioli all’anno;
- Predisporre aree dove i gatti si possano nascondere, come letti chiusi o scatoloni, o un alto davanzale dove possano scappare dai bambini o da altri animali;
- Assicurarsi che i gatti abbiano sufficiente «stimolazione mentale» così che non diventino annoiati o frustrati;
- Utilizzare palline leggere o giocattoli per stimolare l’indole da cacciatore, come ad esempio le canne da pesca;
- Assicurarsi che i gatti non diventino sovrappeso e informarsi sul loro peso ideale per ogni fase della loro esistenza;
- Assicurare la privacy ai gatti riservando loro un posto adeguato per la lettiera in cui ritirarsi per i bisogni quotidiani (questa indicazione fa parte di una guida in nove punti sul tema: «Andare alla toilette»)
