Post dedicato a una figura letteraria, quasi mitologica: la band sconosciuta, sottovalutata e assurdamente geniale. Chi scrive ha iniziato a seguire la musica con i Queen (l’anello di congiunzione tra la grande Musica e i gusti delle masse) e ha visto la passione esplodere con i Beatles, i Beach Boys e i Led Zeppelin. Eppure ci sono band che sanno entusiasmare tanto quanto questi mostri sacri che occupano meritatamente l’Olimpo. Ma non saranno mai ricordate se non dai musicofili. Per cui svolgo un servizio per la comunità:
- MOVE/ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA
"Se i Beatles avessero continuato, la loro musica sarebbe quella degli Electric Light Orchestra" diceva Lennon. "Voglio continuare dove i Beatles si sono fermati con I am the Walrus" dichiarava Jeff Lynne. Creature del genio di Jeff Lynne, appunto. I Move sono una band della seconda metà degli anni ’60, l’unica che potesse competere con i Beatles in terminio di pop. Shazam è una perla, e un salto nel commerciale c’è con Blackberry Way (italianizzata nella pur dignitosa "Tutta mia la città").
Cercare (su youtube o dovunque): Fire Brigade, Omnibus
Il gruppo si scioglie e nasce il progetto Electric Light Orchestra. Una delle icone della musica pop anni ’70, una band dal sound irripetibile che spopolerebbe ancora in qualsiasi pista da ballo.
Cercare: Last Train to London, Mr.Blue Sky, Twilight, Four Little Diamonds
- SLADE
Il rock spesso si dimentica di essere un discendente del rock’n’roll, di quel genere che svegliò delle menti anchilosate e fece del mondo un posto migliore. Gli Slade ce lo ricordano, e il frontman Noddy Holder, due braccia rubate all’agricoltura, con la sua voce stridula e potente e i suoi testi improntati all’ottimismo e alla rivalsa, infonde ogni pezzo di un’energia contagiosa che pervade l’ascoltatore. Puro tritolo musicale, l’ultimo vero gruppo rock’n’roll

- MOTT THE HOOPLE
la band preferita di Joe Strummer dei Clash. E lui, signori, ne capiva a pacconi. Ian Hunter era un Bob Dylan con la voce, i suoi testi sempre toccanti e incisivi, i riff di chitarra di Mick Ralphs leggendari. Si conosce All the Young Dudes, ma i Mott erano molto, molto di più! I veri maestri del glam rock, con buona pace di David Bowie

- PRETTY THINGS
ritenete i Pink Floyd un buon gruppo? Beh sì forse lo erano. Ma mentre loro registravano il loro capolavoro, The Piper at the gates of Dawn, i Pretty Things nello stesso studio gli facevano sentire cosa significa fare rock psichedelico. L’album S.F.Sorrow rappresenta uno dei punti di arrivo degli anni ’60, basti solo considerare che senza di esso non ci sarebbe stato un Tommy degli Who.

- SWEET
amarli o odiarli, dipende dai gusti. Ma nessun altro ha incarnato la sfrontatezza mista a durezza del vero glam rock. Armonie vocali à la Beach Boys, chitarre à la Black Sabbath. un perfetto Yin e Yang musicale.
