- Sex Pistols -

Un gruppo di giovani frequentatori di “Sex”, negozio d’abbigliamento feticista di Malcolm McLaren e Vivienne Westwood, situato in King’s Road a Londra, composto dal chitarrista Steve Jones, dal batterista Paul Cook e dal bassista Glen Matlock decidono di formare una band, ma manca il cantante. Presto notano il disagiato John Lydon aggirarsi nello stesso negozio e, dopo un’audizione, nel 1975 entra a far parte dei Sex Pistols.

Fin dall’inizio non corre buon sangue tra Glen Matlock ed il nuovo arrivato Johnny ribattezzato in “Rotten”. Nonostante ciò cominciano i primi concerti nei locali underground londinesi, dove il gruppo propone un rock decisamente antiperfezionista, ribelle e devastante.

Alcuni dei loro spettatori colgono il messaggio e comincia così la nascita di nuove band: Joy Division, Buzzcocks, Adam And The Ants, Clash, Damned, Slits, ecc… Nel 1976 vengono registrare alcune demo e nello stesso anno esce il primo singolo Anarchy In The Uk.

Dopo la partecipazione ad un programma televisivo finita con provocazioni ed offese, nel giro di poco tempo il gruppo firma e viene scaricato dalla EMI e dalla A&M Records, per poi finire alla Virgin. Matlock viene espulso dalla band e prende il suo posto un’amico di Rotten: Sid "Vicious"; il quale si interessa al fattore scenico più che a quello musicale.

Nel 1977, sfuggendo ad ogni controllo, esplode in tutta Londra il fenomeno punk; la band diventa la bandiera del movimento e nell’anno del giubileo della regina pubblica il singolo God Save The Queen esibendolo live a bordo di un battello nel Tamigi.

Nello stesso anno, preceduto dai singoli Pretty Vacant e Holidays In The Sun, esce il primo lp Never Mind The Bollocks Here’s The Sex Pistos che, nonostante i boicottaggi, finisce al primo posto della classifica inglese.

Verso la fine del 1977 il gruppo parte per un tour in America dove tiene un’ultimo concerto il 17 novembre a San Francisco. A causa di dissidi con il manager Malcolm McLaren, Johnny Rotten abbandona dando vita ai Public Image Ltd.; la band si scioglie dopo un anno di stenti e Sid Vicious, trascinato dalla compagna Nancy Spungen all’uso di droghe pesanti, muore per un’overdose di eroina qualche mese dopo aver ucciso Nancy.
