Giornata a caccia di botoli

Domenica a Verona all’allevamento dove mio fratello intende prendersi un cane.... non un cane qualsiasi, un bull terrier! Che per chi non lo sapesse, è una razza creata 150 anni fa nella cara vecchia Inghilterra per essere il perfetto "gentleman’s companion". Tentativo riuscito, non esiste cane con un carattere più stabile, più educabile e più paziente. Ma oltre ad essere il perfetto compagno, secondariamente è un’arma da guerra, più o meno avrebbe la meglio su qualsiasi altro cane, e prova una certa gioia nell’attaccare animali più grossi di lui (il primo cane di famiglia si distinse prima che io nascessi per l’aver attaccato una mucca). In generale adora essere l’unico essere vivente, umani esclusi, nel suo ambiente. Abbaia pochissimo, ma comunica tantissimo, per lo più con mugolii e versi decisamente sconosciuti alle altre razze: in pratica con un bull terrier ci si trova a conversare, complice anche la sua intelligenza.
L’aspetto fisico è decisamente particolare. O li si ama o li si odia. Hanno un muso lungo e tozzo, la misura della mandibola naturalmente influisce sulla potenza del morso (un adulto non ha alcun problema a staccare la mano a un male intenzionato), Il musone può piacere o non piacere, ma l’espressione degli occhi fa veramente innamorare!
E uno di quei botoli presto diventerà il terzo cane di una stirpe illustre.
