Il progetto new romantic Visage, comprendente membri degli Ultravox e dei Magazine, prende forma a Londra nel 1978 per mano di Steve Strange alla voce, Midge Ure alla chitarra e al synth, Billy Currie al violino elettrico e al synth, John McGeoch alla chitarra e al sassofono, Rusty Egan alla batteria, Dave Formula al synth e Barry Adamson al basso.

Nel 1980 viene pubblicato l’omonimo album di debutto Visage, contenente pezzi sinth-pop, alcuni eleganti e curati. Ne vengono tratti i singoli Tar, Mind Of A Toy, Visage e la hit mondiale Fade To Grey realizzata con il contributo vocale di Brigitte Arens.

Due anni più tardi è la volta dell’album The Anvil, ma i singoli estratti The Damned Don’t Cry, Night Train e Pleasure Boys non bastano a ripetere il successo del lavoro precedente.

Nel 1984 l’lp Beat Boy si rivela un fiasco completo e la band si scioglie.
