The fort project is a series of environmental portraits. I asked individuals to "construct a fort and fill it with what you love." I referred to the structures as forts because I wanted people to begin thinking about concentrating their space and about self-containment, and forts are the first private spaces that most people create for themselves. I was deliberately vague in saying "fill it with what you love" so that I wouldn’t pre-determine what they incorporated. Nevertheless, trends quickly emerged - many people included books, photographs, computers, letters. Objects. The arrangement of the objects, as well as the particular ones chosen, reveals something about each person, as does the way the subjects pose in their forts.
