Intanto...ecco una piacevole riscoperta (thank U The Fly):
pubblicato nel 1993 a nome dei Tears For Fears, in realtà l'album
Elemental è opera del solo
Roland Orzabal. Pur
non essendo al livello dei tre album precedenti, ha degli episodi pregevoli al suo interno. Il successivo
Raoul And The Kings Of Spain, che ha segnato il passaggio dalla PolyGram (ora Universal) alla Sony Music, è stato invece
un vero e proprio flop; in seguito è uscita un'incompleta raccolta di b-sides e rarità, e lacunose antologie, spesso
in serie economica e non autorizzate, hanno il compito di riassumere i loro vecchi successi senza troppa fantasia. Roland Orzabal si è interessato successivamente alla carriera dell'emergente Emiliana Torrini e ha inciso lo sfortunato album solista
Tomcats Screaming Outside.
Quest'anno è uscito negli States il nuovo CD dei Tears For Fears (Curt Smith è tornato dopo 15 anni), che in Italia e nel resto d'Europa sarà lanciato all'inizio del 2005. Finora
le recensioni sono tiepide; il primo singolo,
Closest Thing
To Heaven, ricorda fin troppo Sowing The Seeds Of Love.
Si sta comportando piuttosto bene invece
Call Me Mellow. Il loro classico
Mad World, tuttavia, è stato recentemente riportato al successo grazie ad una cover acustica di Gary Jules, inclusa nella colonna sonora del film
Donnie Darko.
