Moriarty
The town was named after sheep rancher Michael Moriarty, who moved his family to the Estancia Valley from Iowa for health reasons in the late 1880s. Moriarty lies 25 miles east of Albuquerque. There are numerous Pueblo and Native American ruins throughout the county. Dried salt beds in the area made it a destination for Native Americans and Spanish settlers for mining the precious commodity. Route 66's New Mexico realignment after 1937 brought the road through this area westward from Santa Rosa moving through Moriarty through Edgewood, Tijeras and into Albuquerque. Moriarty currently has no Web Site but you can receive more information by writing or calling the organizations listed below.
