29 maggio 1997, Jeff si stava recando all'aeroporto
di Memphis per andare a prendere i membri della band;
essendo in anticipo, ed essendo l'ora del tramonto di un pomeriggio t
ranquillo, in compagnia di un amico si ferma presso le acque del fiume
Wolf River, un affluente del fiume Mississippi. Si immerge nelle acque
del corso d'acqua vestito e con le scarpe. Il suo amico lo vede allontanarsi
dalla riva sempre di più. Muore così Jeff Buckley.
Voci parlano di probabili cause di morte,
nessuna delle quali ha trovato conferma
definitiva: un mulinello creato da una barca
passatagli accanto, le scarpe che lo hanno reso
troppo pesante, o altro. Il suo corpo fu ritrovato
soltanto vari giorni dopo, il 5 giugno 1997, dalla polizia locale.
Nel corso degli anni usciranno vari album postumi
, come Mystery white boy, Live a l'Olympia, Live at Sin-é Legacy Edition, ed altri.
da ricordare l'album "GRACE" che appare tra i capolavori degli anni '90 (IMPERDIBILE)
