Thursday, August 30, 2007 - ore 12:22 Dream Theater (tratto da wikipedia) Metropolis part 1 (The Miracle and the Sleeper) Metropolis part I: The Miracle and the Sleeper è considerato dai fans il brano più rappresentativo dei Dream Theater. L’intro è considerata un piccolo capolavoro: molto semplice, basata solo sull’alternanza di due accordi, ma i suoni utilizzati e il modo in cui entrano gli strumenti, gli conferiscono un impatto molto "cinematografico" e non è difficile che il gruppo, dato il titolo che hanno scelto, vedesse in certi momenti della canzone degli aspetti futuristici, così come il cinema ce li ha mostrati. Caratteristica principale del brano è la lunga sezione strumentale centrale; in questa, infatti, ogni musicista dà sfoggio delle proprie capacità tecniche, in una tessitura che non lascia spazio ad alcuna sbavatura e improvvisazione. I momenti più salienti di questa sezione, sono l’assolo di basso in tapping (in realtà Myung utilizza il tapping in diversi momenti della canzone), preceduto da alcuni stacchi di batteria su dei lunghi accordi pieni degli altri strumenti. In seguito, chitarra e tastiera si lanciano in una serie di scale velocissime, il cui effetto finale potrebbe riportare alla mente le musiche dei primi videogiochi, per un similare uso delle scale cromatiche e delle triadi. Come già l’intro poteva suggerire un senso di "futuro", anche la sezione strumentale sembra voler rimandare ai suoni dei calcolatori elettronici, dei videogiochi e al senso di oppressione delle macchine (tema ben chiaro a chi ha presente l’omonimo film) Il sottotitolo "part I" ha fatto sperare per molto tempo in un seguito.
