Saturday, October 06, 2007 - ore 13:10 Janis Joplin (19/01/1943 - 4/10/1970) Janis Joplin nacque nel Texas. A diciassette anni si trasferì in California inseguendo gli ideali di Love & Peace che a breve avrebbero portato all’esplosione del movimento Hippy. Nel 1966 entrò a far parte della band che la lanciò, i Big Brother & the Holding Company. Nel 1968 incise Cheap Thrills, secondo album del gruppo (tra i brani una cover di Summertime di Gershwin e Piece of my Heart); nello stesso anno partecipò al Festival di Monterey. L’anno seguente si mise in proprio scegliendo un nuovo gruppo d’accompagnamento, la Kozmic Blues Band, con il quale pubblicò l’album I Got Dem Ol’ Kozmic Blues Again Mama!. Poi cambiò ancora gruppo scegliendo la Full-Tilt Boogie Band: l’album Pearl fu pubblicato postumo. Il 4 ottobre 1970 Janis Joplin fu trovata morta nella stanza di un motel di Los Angeles, stroncata da una overdose di eroina in seguito alla quale cadde a faccia in terra rompendosi il volto.
