giovedì 13 luglio 2006 - ore 16:59 «Fenomeno Mentos» Migliaia di filmati sull’effetto che produce la caramella messa dentro una bottiglia di bibita gassata. Avete mai provato a mettere una «Mentos» in una bottiglia di «Diet-coke»? Se volete sapere che cosa succede provate a guardare uno dei moltissimi video che stanno impazzando sul web a proposito di quello che è ormai noto come il «fenomeno Mentos». E in ogni caso...mettetevi un grembiule. la faccenda è molto più spettacolare di quello che ci si può ottenere aprendo una bottiglia di champagne dopo averla energicamente agitata. LA SPIEGAZIONE - Il fenomeno «Mentos» è talmente «fenomeno» che anche le sue spiegazioni «scientifiche» abbondano sulla rete, occupando blog e forum con tesi contrapposte. Ne riportiamo una a titolo di cronaca, con beneficio di inventario e di contraddittorio. Secondo questa «lezione» bisogna partire dalla considerazione che nella bibita le molecole d’acqua sono strettamente legate le une alle altre formando delle reti intorno a bolle di anidride carbonica, che sono poi quelle che conferiscono la connotazione «gassata» alla bibita. Affinché queste bolle vengano lasciate libere, o affinché se ne formino di nuove, è quindi necessario che le reti di molecole d’acqua siano spezzate. MAGICA PASTIGLIA - Per ottenere questo risultato è necessario che intervenga qualche forza fisica in grado di rompere la «tensione superficiale» che permette la stabilità di qieste reti d’acqua. Ed è proprio quello che farebbe la pastiglia di Mentos, grazie al rilascio di gelatina e gomma arabica liberate al contatto con l’acqua. Ogni pastiglia di Mentos sarebbe capace di generare migliaia di queste reazioni e quindi porterebbe alla formazione o alla liberazione di migliaia di bolle di anidride carbonica, generando l’effetto «spumante» che si può osservare nei video.
